The 35th annual Vermont Maple Festival, April 27, 28, and 29, is sponsored in part by People's Trust Company, Ben and Jerry's, Key Bank, and WLFE 102.3FM- WWSR 1420AM. For more info, call the St Albans Area Chamber of Commerce at 524-2444. On the Web at V-t-webs-dom-com-slash-maplefest. |
Betty |
I've seen you eating maple candy, Dick. Want to see how it's made? |
Dick |
We actually make maple candy on the spot at the Vermont Maple Festival? |
Betty |
Sure. The Maple Exhibit Hall and Vermont Maple store has a great kitchen where we can boil syrup. When it's hot enough we put it in a pig that stirs it with a worm in its nose. Then we pour the cooked syrup into a mold and as soon as it cools it's ready for you to eat. |
Dick |
And I love to stop at the sugar house right in the middle of Taylor Park. You know that they boil sap into syrup right on the spot for people to try. Mmm, mmm. Delicious |
Betty |
The Chamber of Commerce also has a bus tour to Carman Brook Maple Farm in Highgate on Saturday. |
Dick |
All the maple businesses have displays. The maple store sells syrup, maple cream, maple chocolates, and maple vinegar. There are maple creemees at the Main Street booth and the festival sugar house has maple shakes and sugar on snow |
Betty |
I'm pretty sure you said maple often enough. |

The big news this year is that we've gathered a lot of events under one roof thanks to BFA-St Albans and the Abbey. |

The biggest maple syrup contest in the world gives bragging rights and our championship maple cooking contest determines Vermont's Best Maple Cook. |
