Cast Iron Franklin Stove - $200

It was a chilly night here by the Canadian border, perfect for a romantic wood fire.

If you want to heat your 13 room, 4,200 square foot chalet this is perhaps the wrong ad to read. On the other hand, if you want to curl up on a bearskin rug with your honey and toast your toes by the fire, read on.

Offered for sale is our Franklin-style parlor stove. Ben Franklin invented a metal-lined fireplace that doubled the efficiency--and safety--of the open fire in the living room. Just as old Ben's original firebox was open to the room, this stove can run with the doors open for a lovely view of the fire.

With the doors open, you can see the sloped top of the firebox, a design innovation to throw more heat into the room. And with the doors closed the entire stove radiates heat.

The cast iron stove is solid with no cracks or missing parts. It includes a cast iron grate. The brass finials and architectural details are a handsome addition to your living room or camp. Its large front tray and spark screen help keep the fire in the box and the built-in damper controls the fire size. Bring a friend and a truck. The stove weighs over 300 pounds, so it continues to release heat after the fire dies out for the night.

The fine print: this stove is about 40 years old. It is in nice condition but it is used so we are selling it as is, where is.

How big is the fire box?
The opening is 24" wide x 19" high and the firebox is 13" deep.

How long does it hold a fire?
Damped down, it will usually still have embers in the morning.

What size flue does the stove have?
8"

Can you damp it down?
There is indeed a damper and the doors have adjustable air inlets but this is not a modern "airtight" stove. It is designed for casual, comfortable fires rather than for whole house heating.
